Why you should send Christmas cards, and why sending them early makes all the difference - A note from Emma, Founder & Designer of Sister Paper Co.

As autumn slowly turns toward winter, the nights grow longer, the dark sets in earlier, and the air feels crisper one of my favourite rituals has become writing and sending Christmas cards. Settle in with a scented candle, a hot drink, a fluffy jumper, and take a pause to cherish those you love, whether they’re near or far.

When you choose to send a Christmas card it says: I saw you. I remembered you. I took the time. That’s why I’ll always believe in the quiet power of sending something real.

In a season that can sometimes feel rushed and heavy with lists, the simple act of writing a Christmas card slows everything down.

What Makes Getting a Christmas Card Special

It’s a Pause in the Rush

December can feel hectic with final deadlines, school concerts, parties and festive logistics. A Christmas card says: slow down. It invites you to stop for a moment, write something real, and choose paper over ping. A handwritten message carries a warmth no screen can match.

A Keepsake to Treasure

This year’s collection feels extra special to me. Each card is cut into a unique shape, designed not just for sending, but for keeping and displaying. I wanted these cards to feel like little treasures that become part of your Christmas traditions and décor – the kind you prop on your mantle or sideboard each year.

My personal favourite is the Meowy Christmas Card with a curious cat peeking through a festive wreath.

Every card is printed here in the UK on paper sourced from certified sustainable forests, just as all our products are.

A Real Connection

A card is a small, tangible way of saying: you matter to me. You chose it, you wrote it, you sent it. That physical act carries more meaning than a quick text or emoji ever could. It’s a reminder that even when we’re far apart, we're connected.

Why Sending Christmas Cards Early Makes All the Difference

I always encourage people to send their cards a little earlier than they think they should, not just for postal peace of mind, but because early cards have more time to be enjoyed.

When your card arrives in early December (or even November), it’s often the first one someone receives. Your thoughtful gesture is noticed, read slowly, and displayed where it can be seen all season long. You’ll also enjoy peace of mind by avoiding last-minute rush and shipping stress, especially if loved ones are far away.

Perhaps most importantly, sending early means you can write with more intention. There’s space to remember what you want to say, to share a genuine wish for the year ahead. It becomes a ritual rather than a task.

Send the Most Unique Christmas Cards

Every year I design our Christmas cards to feel timeless, special and beautiful enough to keep and bring out to display year after year. This year’s shaped cards are even more joyful and unique.

Little Ways to Use Our Miniature Cards

I can’t wait to see how you all use our Miniature Christmas Cards. These tiny cards might be small in size, but they’re wonderfully versatile for the festive season:

  • As adorable place cards for your Christmas table

  • Thank you notes for hosts or helpers

  • Attached to gifts as a beautiful keepsake tag

  • Tucked into a neighbour’s or colleague’s mailbox as a festive smile

  • Hidden in the Christmas tree as a sweet surprise

It’s often the smallest things that make people feel most seen.

A Personal Note from Me

That’s what I love about sending Christmas cards. It’s such a simple thing, but it carries real care and connection. So this year, try sending yours a little earlier. Choose cards that feel personal, write slowly and intentionally, and send early to avoid the festive rush. Those small gestures have a quiet way of meaning more than we often realise.
